Within Fiserv, the role of Tom’s team is to focus on the developer experience — not just for the developers at Fiserv, but also for clients who want to build and integrate new platform services for their users.
When Tom joined Fiserv, his first challenge was to build a developer portal.
“We call it Dev Studio. We won a Webby Award for it last year. I’m very proud of that. The idea is that it’s a single entry point for a developer. I’ve always said, if a developer has to pick up a phone and call the company they’re trying to integrate with, something’s wrong,” he says.
That’s why Dev Studio offers templates, starter kits and other tools that simplify and accelerate development processes. These tools are imbued with all the modern security controls developers need. According to Tom, this liberates them, “because then they feel like, okay, I’m in a safe sandbox, I can’t really mess anything up.”
This, in turn, allows them to increase innovation because they can start taking more chances.
